Welcome! My name is Tina (she/her) and I am a clinical intern at Shoreline. I have a Bachelors in Behavioural Neuroscience at UBC and am currently completing my masters in counselling at City University of Seattle in Canada. Prior to my schooling, I have 3 years’ experience working as a crisis service responder, providing immediate emotional support to individuals in crises and with suicidal ideation. I am also well-versed with local resources having worked as a community resource specialist at a non-profit information centre.
In addition to what I have learned from school, my own journey with counselling has also helped me understand what the counselling process looks like for a client. I believe that counselling is a process of gaining insight on your behaviours, emotions, and how your upbringing impacts the way you are today. As your intern counsellor, I am here to guide you to gain a deeper understanding of your identity, and we can collaborate to come up with personalized strategies that help you with what you are going through at this moment.
I approach my clients with non-judgmental empathy, and I aim to be on your side by understanding your emotions and situations first. I work from a trauma-informed and somatic-oriented approach, meaning in addition to understanding your emotions and thoughts, we can also work to explore how your past experiences affect the way your body responds in the present.
If you are feeling stuck, uncertain, anxious, or if you are looking for a listening ear to unload the burden off your shoulders, I invite you to reach out to me for a consultation. Looking forward to connecting with you!
